UKE cafeteria, Hamburg
Short description
On the basis of plans by Klaus Sill, the new cafeteria of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) was constructed as a new building storey during ongoing operations at the site. The work was completed in December 2006.
The project
The cafeteria and patient care facility were constructed in a new storey on the existing pharmacy building, transforming the building structures of the 60s and 70s into a contemporary urban ensemble. The patient care facility, with the capacity to provide around 3,900 meals per day, was built on the second floor and supplies the entire UKE and the Altona Children's Hospital. The cafeteria extends over two storeys – the third and fourth floor – and contains 750 seats. Here, meals can be provided for up to 2,200 people every day. The new staff restaurant was intentionally placed at the highest position inside the building. The work performed by Façade Technology included
- Profiled glass
- Slanted sheet cladding
- Aluminium mullion-transom façade
