Green center Franklin-Areal

Short description

Implenia is building a district center with commercial and restaurant space on a green hill in the Franklin-Areal in Mannheim Käfertal.

The project

Implenia is building an underground parking garage and a building with around 5,500 m² of commercial space on a green hill in Mannheim-Käfertal as part of a consortium for Germany's largest site development, as well as a residential building with 34 residential units above ground.

Services in detail

The intensive greening of the commercial section forms the "green center" on the 145-hectare conversion site. A viewing platform and generously designed outdoor facilities with pedestrian and barrier-free access to the hill structure form the central point of the new "green center".

The design by MVRDV, Rotterdam envisages two building sections on an underground parking garage. The above-ground parts of the building are separated by the traffic-free, so-called Europa-Axis, which crosses the entire site.

The foundation as well as the load-bearing and bracing components are made of reinforced concrete. The wall structure of the residential building and the roof structure above the commercial section are constructed using timber framework and glulam beams. A steel framework and composite ceilings are planned for the supporting structure of the residential building.

Sustainability

The wooden structures, a well for watering the outdoor facilities and a PV system with 115 kWp contribute to the sustainability of the project. The buildings are being built to the KfW55 standard.
