SISKA Heuberger Holding AG is investing close to CHF 100 million in the new ZHAW health centre on the Sulzer site in Winterthur

Implenia has been given a total contracting order to build what will be Switzerland’s largest training centre for occupational therapy, midwives, care and physiotherapy | Architecture competition launched for Werk 1

Dietlikon, 3 February 2016 – Implenia is handing over Halle 52 on the Sulzer site in Winterthur to its new owner SISKA Heuberger Holding AG. At the same time, Implenia, as total contractor, will start building a new centre for the Health Department of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW). When this work is finished, the new building on the Sulzer site will be Switzerland’s largest training centre for occupational therapy, midwives, care and physiotherapy. The total investment comes to almost CHF 100 million. Günter Heuberger, Managing Director of SISKA Heuberger Holding AG, says: “As a regionally rooted company committed to Winterthur, we are very pleased that this project, which is so important to the development of the site, is being realised together with the Canton and Implenia.” The lease for the new building, which Implenia signed with Canton Zurich in April 2013, is also being transferred to the new owner. The project will meet SIA Energy Efficiency Path 2040 guidelines, fulfill the Minergie standard and will have no parking spaces. Around 24,500 square meters of floor space are planned, spread over six overground floors. In spring 2013 Implenia, together with the City of Winterthur, Canton Zurich and the ZHAW, held an architecture competition for the design of the new building. This was won by the team at Zurich-based pool Architekten. The site’s heritage is acknowledged in the retention of some of the crane track that runs alongside the building, and the integral protection of adjacent Hall 53. In addition, the new facade facing Katharina-Sulzer-Platz continues to pay homage to the structures of the old building. Demolition work and site decontamination begins in mid-2016, and once planning permission is secured, construction should start at the beginning of 2017.<br/>

For Werk 1, Implenia launched the first architecture competition in close collaboration with the City of Winterthur mid-December 2015. The jury has signed off the study programme for construction sites 3, 5b and 5c and chosen six teams of architects. The winning project will be presented in the middle of the year. By commissioning the study Implenia is creating the basis for a sustainable redevelopment of high architectural quality. The plans will accord with 2000-Watt Society objectives (SIA Efficiency Path - Leaflet 2040). Around 300 homes are being built on Site 3. Pensimo Management AG’s Adimora investment foundation and the Winterthur cooperatives Gesewo and gaiwo have been secured as investors.
