Implenia secures record project in Norway

Contract signed to build the new E6 road around 80 kilometres northwest of Lillehammer | At approximately CHF 230 million largest single road infrastructure contract ever awarded in Norway

Dietlikon, 8 January 2014 – The Norwegian Public Roads Administration signed a contract with Implenia and its joint venture partner K.A. Aurstad to build the new E6 road. The contract is worth around CHF 230 million (about NOK 1.595 billion, Implenia's share: around 60%), making it the most significant project acquisition so far for Implenia Norge, as well as the largest single road infrastructure contract ever awarded in Norway's history. Around 300 people will be working on the project construction site at peak times.

The new connecting road between the towns of Vinstra and Sjoa, approximately 80 kilometres northwest of Lillehammer, will help reduce traffic congestion significantly in the region’s villages and cities. As well as standard sections of road, the complex project also involves a wide variety of technically challenging structures. These include a roughly 16 kilometre-long express road with additional and overtaking lanes, a 3.6 kilometre-long tunnel, four bridges, two tunnel portals and 17 over- and underpasses. The contract also encompasses about 12 kilometres of local roads and around 1.6 kilometres of pavement and cycle paths. Construction work begins at the end of January 2014 and the project should be completed by October 2016.
