Implenia is a founding member of the Sustainable Construction Network Switzerland

Promoting sustainable construction of buildings, civil engineering and infrastructure

Dietlikon, 14 June 2013 – Following an intensive preparatory phase, the Sustainable Construction Network Switzerland (NNBS) introduced itself to the wider public for the first time yesterday (Thursday). The NNBS has various aims: on the one hand it is a platform for contact between the main players in sustainable construction, encouraging dialogue between business, the public sector, education, politics and academia. On the other, the Network wants to introduce standards, instruments and labels to create a common understanding of sustainable construction, and to reinforce transparency and competition in the market. NNBS also promotes training and development within the field of sustainable construction. “Implenia believes that the only construction fit for the future is sustainable construction, which is why it has worked so hard for the last two years to ensure this important joint venture between various parties gets off the ground. We want to take an active role in developing the theme further. With its broad range of members, the NNBS provides an excellent platform to do this”, says Markus Koschenz, Member of the Core Executive Board of the NNBS and Head of Implenia Engineering.

At yesterday’s event the NNBS launched the Standard Nachhaltiges Bauen Schweiz  (“Standard for Sustainable Building in Switzerland”), which is the product of two years of development. Implenia has been intensely involved in this joint public/private-sector project, both on the steering group and now in the pilot phase. Switzerland's leading construction and construction services company has been able to contribute expertise gained while developing its own in-house assessment scheme for sustainable property. This tool is used in the early phases of all Implenia’s development projects. Only those projects that score well on all sustainability criteria in the overall assessment are taken forward.

The Standard Nachhaltiges Bauen Schweiz currently applies to the construction of buildings, but the NNBS is extending its focus to civil engineering and infrastructure construction as well. Thanks to its great experience in this area, Implenia is taking a major role in the initiative.
