Breakthrough at the Mossetunnel in Sandbukta/Norway

On 10th March 2021, Bane NOR and MossIA ANS celebrated the breakthrough of the Mossetunnel in Sandbukta. Implenia is part of the joint venture, MossIA ANS, which will complete the SMS2A project for the government agency Bane NOR. The primary goal of the project is to increase capacity and shorten travel time on the Østfold line.

Bane NOR and MossIA ANS are building a new 10 kilometer double track trough the municipality of Moss, with two tunnels: the 3.2 km Mossetunnel in the north and the 2.1 km Carlbergtunnel in the south. In addition, the joint venture is also building the new Moss station.

Ragnar Reitan, project director of MossIA, is happy about the breakthrough: “It is an important milestone. The work has gone very well, and I am proud of the tunnel team and all other experts who have contributed their knowledge and expertise. A lot of hard work has been put into this. I would like to thank Bane NOR for the assignment and congratulate everyone who has contributed to the milestone.”

Birger Steffensen, project director of Bane NOR, also emphasizes the significance of the breakthrough: “With the breakthrough of the Mossetunnel we are well on our way to delivering a better train service to those who live in Moss and travelers on the Østfold line. MossIA has been doing well and is ahead of schedule for tunnel work. All of this has been achieved without any injuries or sick leave in the middle of a pandemic.”

For 2022, a same type of breakthrough will be taking place in the southern direction towards Kransen. After this, the entire Mossetunnel's conventional blasting work will be completed.
