Station Korsvägen

Short description

Korsvägen is one of three underground stations on the Västlänken, the new railway link currently under construction beneath Gothenburg city centre. The station will be strategically located in the city’s events and knowledge district, in the immediate vicinity of Liseberg, Universeum and the Svenska Mässan, and will become a key hub for public transport in Gothenburg and western Sweden.

The project

On behalf of the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), Implenia is responsible for the continued construction of Korsvägen station, including the installation of the technical systems. The contract was taken over from a previous contractor and involves the completion of the station and its associated facilities. Korsvägen station comprises an approximately 800-metre-long double-track tunnel with an associated service tunnel cut into the rock. The tunnel opens into a four-track station, with approximately half of the structure built into the rock and the other half constructed as a concrete tunnel using the cut-and-cover method. The station also comprises several large chambers carved into the rock, as well as tunnels for ventilation, fresh air supply and pressure equalisation, and two service tunnels. The project is being carried out in a complex urban environment that places high demands on planning, logistics, coordination and safe construction. With this contract, Implenia is contributing to the completion of a key section of the Västlänken and to the development of sustainable infrastructure.
