Implenia wins order worth over CHF 100 million to build a new landmark for North Zurich

SBB Immobilien has commissioned Implenia to build the 80 meter high Andreasturm | Total contractor mandate secured for complex building construction job in Oerlikon

Dietlikon, 15 March 2016 – The 80 meter high Andreasturm, designed by architects Gigon/Guyer, is being built next to the railway station in Oerlikon, Zurich. From 2018 it will be a dramatic addition to the skyline of this up-and-coming part of the city. The client, SBB Immobilien, awarded the contract for constructing the new landmark tower to Implenia thanks to a business model worked out jointly with foundation engineering that includes impressive features relating to safety and deadline security. Implenia already used digital 4D Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the tender phase to plan the complex technical solution. This helped Implenia secure a total contractor mandate worth more than CHF 100 million. The Andreasturm will become the gateway to business in North Zurich, with around 20,000 m² of office space and lots of room for shops, cafés and restaurants, as well as a direct link to the platforms and station underpass. The expansion of Oerlikon station, which will be officially opened this winter, is already being carried out by a consortium led by Implenia. The Andreasturm is also impressive in terms of energy efficiency: it is being built in accordance with the “DGNB Platinum” label adapted by the Swiss Sustainable Building Council (SGNI). The contract represents an important mandate for the Switzerland Segment, which among other things brings together the Implenia Group’s building construction capabilities and provides customers with tailored, technically sophisticated, comprehensive solutions from a single source. Construction work begins on the Andreasturm in April 2016.
