Implenia wins new infrastructure contracts worth CHF 73 million in French-speaking Switzerland

General contractor mandate for civil works as part of Geneva Airport terminal expansion | Refurbishment of the Vallorbe Essert-Pittet section of the A9 motorway | Renovation of tunnels on the A1 near Geneva

Dietlikon, 11 March 2016 – Implenia has secured a number of new infrastructure contracts in French-speaking Switzerland worth almost CHF 73 million in total. These successful acquisitions are evidence of Implenia’s good market position. Infrastructure expertise from various Business Units across the Group – from roadbuilding and civil works to tunnelling and foundation engineering – is being applied to the projects. As part of the airport terminal expansion in Geneva, the client, Genève Aéroport, has awarded Implenia as general contractor with civil works on the new east wing. The "Aile Est BAT1" lot includes the construction of geothermal probes, demolition of part of the existing infrastructure, foundation engineering and civil works. In order to keep disruption of airport operations to a minimum, Implenia is utilising cut and cover techniques. Construction work starts at the beginning of April 2016 and should last until November 2017. The Swiss Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) has awarded Implenia the contract for two projects. One involves the refurbishment of the A9 motorway between Vallorbe and Essert-Pittet, which is part of the "Transport Safety - Step 2” project. It includes repairing road surfaces, extending the hard shoulder and refurbishing existing structures. Work started at the beginning of March and is scheduled to last until the end of November 2017. Implenia is also carrying out renovation work for FEDRO on the existing A1 motorway tunnels "Tunnel de Confignon" and "Tunnel de Vernier". In addition to refurbishing the tunnel shafts the work also includes building twelve new pedestrian walkways, various excavations and support works and upgrading 10 gallery portals. By the end of the work, which is scheduled to last from May 2016 to October 2017, a total of 4,000 cubic metres of earth will have been excavated and almost 6,000 cubic metres of concrete used.
