Implenia wins major total contractor order for the "PONT-ROUGE" development in Geneva

SBB Immobilien AG is investing CHF 250 million in the first phase of one of the region's largest construction projects | Implenia Group combines its comprehensive civil engineering, foundation engineering and total contractor capabilities

Dietlikon, 10 July 2015 – The "PONT-ROUGE" development will upgrade the area around the Lancy–Pont-Rouge future railway station. A new urban centre is being created here, less than two kilometres from Geneva city centre. It is one of the largest construction projects in the Geneva region. Within this major project, the client, SBB Immobilien AG, has commissioned Implenia to act as total contractor (TC) for the first phase of construction (Plot B1). The SBB, which is investing a total of CHF 250 million in this first phase, says the following about its choice of Implenia as TC: "We look forward to working with a building partner which is so well anchored in the Geneva region. Implenia also has the experience of large-scale projects necessary to ensure this contract is completed on time and to the required quality."

PONT-ROUGE includes five mixed-use properties. Offices and commercial premises, as well as additional infrastructure such as restaurants, cafes, shops, recreational areas, public facilities and a hotel, are to be built on a floor area totalling 120,000 square meters. At the foot of the Lancy hills, around 600 new residential units will complement the commercial development. This will provide a good mix of social and collective housing as well as owner-occupied homes. On Plot B1, which is Implenia's responsibility, there are plans for ground floor commercial usage and office premises of between 440 and 2200 square meters.

The ground was broken on the PONT-ROUGE development in-mid June in the presence of Frederic Renevey, the Mayor of Lancy, Antonio Hodgers, the Councillor responsible for Geneva's Department of Planning, Housing and Energy, and others. Implenia starts construction work on 1 September 2015, combining skills from across the Group including the expertise of its Geneva Civil Works unit, its foundation engineering capabilities and its experience as total contractor. Plot B1 is due to be completed in autumn 2018. Detailed information is available here.
