Optimisation of construction processes with BIM
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a central part of the digitalisation of the construction industry. We use BIM to improve our internal processes such as design, execution and operation of buildings to make them more effective. In engineering and infrastructure construction this is a particular challenge: the complex building structures, the inclusion of the surrounding terrain and different manufacturing processes make standardisation difficult. We create model-based designs for both the building geometry (formwork) and the reinforcement. The BIM models are also used for coordination with other internal units and external project participants.
Structural engineering
We prepare structural designs mainly for the following areas tunnelling, civil engineering, bridge construction, special foundations, steel construction and hydraulic engineering and also industrial and power plant construction. Here, it is always our goal to optimise not only the building dimensions and reinforcement quantities, but also in particular the construction processes. The quantity takeoff is increasingly carried out using the BIM methodology. Together with our colleagues in the estimation and work preparation departments, we also develop bespoke solutions tailored for individual project requirements. You can also rely on our know-how when designing excavation pits (covers, retaining walls, bracing). Especially in special foundations, the influence of the chosen construction methods and the equipment technology used is particularly important. Therefore, a high degree of specialist knowledge and close networking with the construction team is required here in order to achieve results that are closely aligned with the construction site.
Design coordination/design management
We coordinate the wishes and concerns of the client, the construction site and the designer and refine them to a common denominator. Since the ideas of the different project participants often vary, we bring the appropriate tact to quickly reach the necessary decisions for the design. We are responsible for the organisation, implementation and monitoring of the entire execution design of all trades in a project. In addition, we take care of the preparation of the execution documents up to the design control and design optimisation, e.g. with regard to the construction process and building materials. In this way, we ensure that the costs remain within the set framework.
Technical advice
We find the right solution for technical problems: for example, we carry out feasibility studies and develop special proposals. Structural design for auxiliary construction measures is also one of our core competences – for example, for back bracing structures that enable a tunnel boring machine to start up, foundations for tower cranes or mobile cranes and storage areas for precast tunnel lining segments. Of course, we carry out all these tasks in close coordination with the team on the construction site in order to always find the ideal solution in terms of quality, costs and timing.
