Project start on the Semmering base tunnel postponed to resume in about six months

A consortium, in which Implenia participates, uses time on site for preparatory work | Insignificant financial implications

Dietlikon, 4 March 2014 – At the start of this year, a consortium consisting of Implenia and the Austrian company Swietelsky won the contract to build the Semmering base tunnel. Due to a decision by the Austrian Administrative Court, which upheld objections relating to the approval process, the project start was slightly postponed. Implenia expects that work on the tunnel can resume in about six months. The award of the contract to the consortium is not jeopardised by the Court's decision, and the delay is not substantial given that the project will take around 10 years to complete. Neither will there be any significant financial implications. The consortium is currently carrying out necessary construction tasks on site and can use the time to prepare work in an optimal manner.
