Major new order for Implenia in Zurich worth around CHF 90 million

Mobimo commissions Implenia as total contractor to build 277 homes on the former Labitzke site

Dietlikon, 1 December 2015 – Implenia has secured a major new total contracting order in Zurich worth approximately CHF 90 million. The company will build eight buildings, including two tower blocks of 47 and 64 metres, on a site of around 10,000 square meters between Albulastrasse and Hohlstrasse, in accordance with plans drawn up by Zurich architects Gigon/Guyer. Across an overall floorspace of 40,000 square metres the client, Mobimo, is creating a total of 277 new homes with 1.5 up to 4.5 rooms, plus commercial and retail units. There will be six publicly accessible squares offering flexible usage. Not least because of the complexity of the project and the challenging 24-month construction schedule, Implenia will be using “Lean Construction” methods. By applying “lean” principles it will be able to optimise construction processes, which will be scheduled and standardised to ensure the most efficient and reliable execution possible. Implenia already made use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and 3-D computer-aided models during the tendering phase. BIM helps to integrate all the parties working on the project into the construction process right from the start. Key benefits include more accurate planning of costs and the construction timetable, as well more straightforward management of changes. Demolition and decontamination work has been going on at the former paint factory site since summer 2015. Construction will begin before the end of this year. The 277 apartments should be ready for their new occupants at the start of 2018.
