Underground line U5, Berlin, Germany
Short description
The U5 underground line in Berlin was extended in order to expand the route coming from the east beyond Alexanderplatz to the main station.
The project
The route section included a track change facility with a starting shaft for the tunnel boring machine as well as three additional underground stations. The tunnel section has a length of approx. 1.6 km, the distance of the entire gap closure was approx. 2.5 km.
In December 2020, the gap closure of the U5 was completed and the new U5 underground line has been running from Hönow near Berlin to the main station and back ever since. With the closing of the gap, three beautiful underground stations were created, the underground station Berliner Rathaus, the station Museumsinsel as well as the interchange station Unter den Linden with the possibility to change to the U6.
BCL as technical partner of the syndicate new construction U5 construction logistics was responsible for the construction logistics planning of the commissioned services during the expansion phase as well as for the provision of these construction logistics services on the entire route of the gap closure.
