Short description

Canoeing in Munich city centre: a facelift for the adventure and outdoor sports department store

The project

The Buildings branch in Munich revitalised the former Rieger City at a sought-after inner-city location in Munich. The building had to be completely gutted before it could be converted from a luxury shop into an adventure and outdoor sports department store. By taking all aspects into consideration early in the planning phase, it was possible to optimise the processes, deadlines and costs of the construction phase.

Conversion of an office and commercial space into an 8,500 m² department store

Challenges

This project was completed while the building was still in use, which posed significant challenges in terms of planning and execution of the construction work. For this reason, the Munich branch office made sure that intensive communication took place from early on in the planning phase, holding regular meetings with the tenants. This helped to ensure that construction work ran smoothly, with minimal disruption overall. Thanks to well-conceived construction processes, deliveries and material disposal were also carried out seamlessly despite the space constraints of the inner-city location.
