River power plant

Nature has been developing impressive forces for millions of years, which can be used to generate energy with the right technology. Run-of-river power plants convert the flow of rivers into electricity and achieve an outstanding efficiency of almost 94 percent. This is achieved by damming the ﬂowing water, creating a difference in height that can be used to generate electricity.

As simple as this sounds, run-of-river power plants are complex to produce. And yet hydropower is one of the world's most important renewable energy sources that neither consumes raw materials nor emits exhaust gases.

Implenia can look back on a long tradition in the construction of run-of-river power plants. Dams can withstand unimaginable volumes of water and weights. The colossal structures are used as drinking water reservoirs, energy storage facilities, flood protection or for energy generation. Despite their size and robustness, their construction requires surprisingly precise work, not least because physical tricks are used without which the dam could not fulfill its purpose.
