Implenia builds homes for young and old around Switzerland
Dietlikon, 13 August 2013 – As part of its strategic "Health" priority, Implenia is focusing on building property suitable for the elderly. In several projects, Switzerland's leading construction services provider is currently proving its skill at building homes for seniors and for cross-generational living. Demographic change means that demand in this market segment is set to grow over the years to come.
In Muttenz near Basel, the local retirement accommodation association awarded Implenia a CHF 30 million contract to act as general contractor in the construction of a new build to replace the existing "Zum Park" old-age and care home. In response to rising demand for care beds in the municipality, the 11,400 square meter Minergie-P-Standard building will increase capacity by almost 30 beds. The preparatory work is already underway and the demolition of the old building will begin in September 2013. The new building will be ready for the residents to move in by January 2016.
From spring 2015 new life will come to a 12,600 meter site right by the railway station in Islikon, Canton Thurgau. The foundation stone for the "Sunnewies" project is being laid on 20 August 2013, marking the start of Implenia's work as total contractor on the construction of seven multi-storey buildings. The client for the CHF 30 million project is IMMOFONDS, a listed real estate fund based in Zug but operating all over Switzerland. Sensato AG, a company based in Bern and Zurich that specializes in homes for old people, operates the "Casa Sunnwies" complex, which will consist of three buildings with 41 apartments specially designed for the elderly, plus a nursing department with 16 single rooms. The plan is for “Sunnewies” also to become home to single people families and couples. Forty two apartments are being built for them in four additional buildings. The development will be completed by the addition of a possible doctors' practice and office space.
In Geneva, Implenia is acting as general contractor on the construction of the “Centre Intergénérationnel” – an innovative residential project for intergenerational living. When finished at the end of 2015, the building, designed by architects Devanthéry & Lamunière, will be home to residents of all ages. The client is Geneva's Bureau Central d’Aide Sociale. The complex includes a retirement and care home for 144 people, a crèche for 60 children, a lobby for the "Clair Bois" foundation, student accommodation and rental apartments, a multi-purpose hall, a cafe and a restaurant. The buildings are linked by a shared village square that serves as a place for young and old to meet. The contract for this project is worth CHF 57.4 million.
