We stay cool!
Ground freezing
Soil freezing is a temporary construction aid that takes advantage of the positive properties of high strength and water impermeability of frozen soil.
Ice is an excellent, natural adhesive and sealant for soil and rock. Thanks to this property, mountains at high altitudes have been supporting each other for millions of years. Implenia also uses this freezing effect to construct shafts, excavations and tunnels in difficult ground conditions.
Ground freezing
When problematic soil calls for unconventional methods, Implenia's specialist foundation engineers are in demand. Soil freezing is a reliable, flexible and, last but not least, environmentally friendly construction method, as the intervention in the groundwater balance is only minor and of short duration. It is used for temporary sealing or soil consolidation. Tunnel excavations and cross-cuts in groundwater can also be carried out under the protection of icing bodies. Our experts control the entire process with their own highly sensitive equipment - from drilling for the freezing lances to operating the cooling units and recording the temperature data for monitoring the icing process.
