Mannheim power station, Block 9
Short description
The Mannheim power station GKM is the only large-scale power station in Germany. Façade Technology installed the roof and façade cladding on Block 9 of the power station.
The project
Situated in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, the Großkraftwerk Mannheim AG (GKM) power plant produces electricity for more than 2.5 million people, businesses and industrial users, as well as district heating for some 120,000 households. The commissioning of Block 9 in May 2015 made the GKM the largest power generation site in Baden-Württemberg. Block 9 was constructed as a replacement for Blocks 3 and 4. After a six-year construction period, it was put into operation in May 2015 with an output of 911 MW. Thanks to its efficiency of 46.4% and fuel usage of up to 70%, Block 9 is setting new standards in environmental and climate protection. Façade Technology was responsible for installing the double-shell façade cladding with heat and sound insulation, as well as the flat roof structure.
