Michelbach canal bridge
Short description
Renovation of the Michelbach canal bridge.
The project
The Michelbach canal bridge is a crossing structure between the Main-Danube Canal and Obermichelbacher Str., with the canal crossing the road in this case. The canal bridge is now getting on in years and requires renovation.
To this end, foundation piles are being drilled at a limited height in front of the walls of the reinforced concrete frame bridge, which will be fitted with a stiffening head beam. This head beam is extended under the existing walls using the pilgrim step method. The walls themselves are reinforced by 20 cm with shotcrete. This reinforcement is connected to the existing wall with single-rod anchors. The header beam then forms the load-bearing connection between the reinforced walls and the bored piles.
Challenges
Limited space due to height restrictions under the bridge, especially when installing the piles.
