Vernissage "Touch Wood" - Wood as a building material in transition
Wood spreads a spirit of optimism. Some of the most interesting debates about the future are being conducted around this material in architecture and urban planning. Whether it's about CO2 emissions, the development of technology, changes in urban landscapes or our relationship with nature: wood is always at the centre of the discussion.
From June to October 2022, the Zentrum für Architektur Zürich invites visitors to get to the bottom of wood as a building material in a hands-on exhibition. The exhibition presents various outstanding timber construction projects with Swiss participation and focuses on the potential of wood as a material in ecological change. Also on display is a ceiling system developed by Implenia together with ETH Zurich and WaltGalmarini. The centrepiece of the exhibition is a reconstruction of the Basler & Hofmann acoustic wall in Esslingen. It shows how parametric planning and digital fabrication can give rise to completely new buildings in terms of aesthetics and functionality.
A publication of the same name will be published by Lars Müller Publishers to accompany the exhibition. Curatorial Team Carla Ferrer, Thomas Hildebrand and Celina Martinez-Cañavate.
