2nd main line Munich - VE733 Tunnel Ostbahnhof
Short description
The VE733 award unit is part of the 2nd Munich main line. It serves to relieve the 1st main line, which was built for the 1972 Olympic Games and is now operating at its capacity limit.
The project
Construction lot VE733 includes the construction of two traffic tunnel tubes with cross-passages and an exploratory and rescue tunnel (ERS) in between, rescue shafts 7 and 8 (RS7 and RS8) as well as the underground S-Bahn station Ostbahnhof.
The line tunnels are mainly being excavated using tunnel boring machines (TBMs) with active face support and segmental lining. Eight cross-passages are being built using the NATM method and protected by ground freezing measures. The Ostbahnhof underground section and RS7 (both using diaphragm wall construction) as well as RS8 (bored pile wall) are being constructed using the cut-and-cover method. The branching for the later connection of the south branch will be created by dismantling and widening the TBM tunnel sections using the shotcrete method from RS7 onwards under compressed air.
