Neue Zürcher Zeitung: Opportunities open up in Germany for Swiss market leader Implenia
Sales were up on the previous year after adjusting for currency effects, the order backlog increased further and all divisions made a positive contribution to earnings. Implenia is on track to achieve the targets set for 2023.
In its article on Implenia's half-year results, the NZZ also sees opportunities for the Swiss market leader in the German construction industry. The focus is on large and complex projects in urban areas.
While residential construction in Germany in particular is suffering and project developers are going bankrupt due to increased capital and material costs, Implenia CEO André Wyss sees the positive: "The current situation in Germany may result in opportunities for Implenia. You hear about some that are having problems. We are watching the market very actively and examining potential opportunities closely."
In parallel, Implenia is playing to its strengths in civil engineering, the Group's second major pillar. After all, even though residential construction is weakening, demand in Germany for complex energy and transport infrastructure is high, for example for the refurbishment of highway bridges.
There are hardly any German skid marks to be seen in the half-year results: Sales in the Federal Republic climbed 8 percent from January to June to 520 million Swiss francs.
Germany remains the Group's second largest market.
