New infrastructure contract in Norway worth around CHF 18 million

Contract signed for construction and electrical work to upgrade the Fannefjord Tunnel | Proof of Implenia Group’s comprehensive expertise in maintaining complex infrastructure

Dietlikon, 27 October 2014 – Implenia has won a contract for around CHF 18 million from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NOK 124 million) for the total refurbishment of the Fannefjord Tunnel, which was opened 22 years ago. Located in the middle of Norway’s fjord-land, the 2745-meter long tunnel runs under the sea between the small town of Molde and the nearby island of Bolsøya. The main refurbishment work will take place at night, when the tunnel is closed for traffic. The existing protection against water and frost will be ripped out and replaced. The tunnel will then be cleaned and reinforced with new bolts and shotcrete. The contract also includes constructing additional emergency bays and new technical buildings, as well as widening the tunnel where it is currently too narrow. As well as the construction work, Implenia is responsible for the electrical installations. For example, Implenia specialists will be updating the existing lighting, installing new cabling and earth systems, and implementing a new management system for monitoring traffic. Work begins in November 2014 and should last a year. By winning the contract Implenia Norge has confirmed its reputation for comprehensive expertise in maintaining complex infrastructure. This new project strengthens the Group’s regional presence in the Norwegian market.
