Implenia wins infrastructure contract in Western Norway

Improvements to the E39 road on the island of Flatøy | Project is worth around NOK 100 million (almost CHF 15 million)

Dietlikon, 12 September 2014 – The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has awarded the contract for a major road safety construction project in the west of the country to Implenia Norge. The contract is worth almost CHF 15 million (NOK 98 million).

The project in the municipality of Meland mainly involves widening the existing E39 European highway to make it safer for all road users. Implenia Norge is building lane dividers as well as paths, underpasses and bridges for pedestrians and cyclists. The project also includes the conversion of a simple crossroads into a proper junction with separate lane guides. Three existing underpasses are being updated and improved to meet the latest standards. Another new underpass will be constructed using prefabricated concrete elements. In total, approximately 90,000 m3 of material needs to be blasted out on the construction site. The contract also includes demolishing the bridge to Hjelten and replacing it with a new, longer bridge wide enough to take four-lanes. Implenia will build a noise-deflection wall east of the road. Construction is due to start in autumn 2014, and should be completed by October 2016.

Implenia Norge has grown very rapidly since it joined the Group in 2011, and Implenia deliberately slowed the pace in Norway in the first half of 2014. During the first six months of the year, the clear focus in Scandinavia was on reinforcing internal structures and processes. By winning this contract, Implenia Norge has underlined its strategy of further intensifying activities in the west of the country.
