Implenia to upgrade main traffic artery
Dietlikon, 8 February 2018 – The A1 motorway is a vital traffic artery for the greater Zurich area. A consortium led by Implenia has been commissioned by the Swiss Federal Roads Office (ASTRA) to repair and upgrade a section of approximately eleven kilometres between Zurich-Ost and Effretikon. The order is worth a total of around CHF 85 million. As lead company, Implenia has a 60% stake in the consortium.
The main work will take place between April 2018 and summer 2020, and will include replacing the surface with low-noise asphalt, as well as renewing the crash barriers, fences and the foundation layers of the hard shoulder. The consortium with Cellere Bau AG is also working to refurbish two bridges, six overpasses, one underpass and some other smaller structures and oil traps. The consortium will also build retaining walls, gantry foundations and a service bay for operations/ maintenance. By working in two shifts and on Saturdays, traffic disruption should be kept to a minimum.
The structural challenges in Swiss regional business remain significant. Road construction, repair, and civil engineering are among Implenia’s core competencies. The Group decided last spring to bring these competencies together under one roof in Switzerland. This latest contract win shows that Implenia has set the right course in its road-building and civil engineering business.
