Short description
Built on the site of the former HIFIPAC factory, the administration building is seen by numerous passers-by and motorists traveling in this fast-growing industrial district. This prime location presented the owner with the challenge of ensuring impeccable quality and functional aesthetics with a recognizable external appearance. No one suspected that "Swissgrid", the national grid company, a large employment agency and the Lausanne West police would be the tenants, with very different design needs indeed.
The project
The building offers 4,500m2 on five floors as well as two underground levels, which were built on an area of 1,800m2. Access to the building is via Route des Flumeaux and the Business Parc, which is only 150 meters away. The two buildings are connected by a tunnel. The program consists of large plateaus accessed via two access shafts with vertical circulation and equipped with complementary technical cores.
Services in detail
Inside, the primary space is concentrated around a central concrete core, in which the technical and service rooms as well as the sanitary facilities are located. This solution enables maximum utilization of the available space and a large open space on the façade. The rooms rented by the police are divided into four areas for a security zone, five boxes for pre-trial detention and six hearing rooms for questioning or lodging complaints. At floor level, the post-and-panel system without solid façade walls was chosen to make the space modular. Each façade grid can be subdivided as desired.
