Implenia wins new total contractor orders in Zurich and Gümligen (BE) worth a total of CHF 118 million
Dietlikon, 25 April 2016 – Implenia’s local building construction units have secured new total contractor orders worth around CHF 118 million in Zurich and Gümligen (BE). The ASIG housing cooperative has commissioned Implenia as total contractor to complete a replacement building project for the “Am Glattbogen” housing development in Zurich North worth around CHF 80 million. In the first phase of the project, 229 new apartments will be built in the eastern part of the Am Glattbogen site to replace the existing 115 units. The focus is on offering affordable, sustainable homes. Another aim is to achieve a high quality densification in this up-and-coming Zurich neighbourhood, creating a city residential area that despite its size retains a human scale and encourages social life. The redevelopment also keeps to the planning principles of the garden city as conceived by city architect Albert Steiner in 1950. As well as rental apartments, the development will include a kindergarten and a large community hall. Alongside the good mix of uses, sustainability features include a wide social mix, energy efficient construction (district heating, Minergie standard), as well as proximity to public transport and services. Construction on the project, designed by Zurich’s pool Architekten, is scheduled to begin in summer 2016. Residents should be moving in by the end of 2019. You can find out more about the project here. In Gümligen, Implenia is building the new “Gümligenfeld”commercial and leisure centre, with shopping, restaurants, a bowling alley, office space and a ten-screen cinema facility. Implenia developed the CHF 38 million project and is now building it as total contractor for client UBS Fund Management (Switzerland) Ltd. In line with the Implenia’s “One Company” strategy, the project, from the civil works to the concreting and masonry to the engineering, is being executed with the help of the Group’s internal specialists. The concreting work for the cinema auditoriums is particularly demanding owing to the large spans involved, the height of the spaces – up to 12 metres – and the sloping concrete ceilings. Excavation work is currently underway. Completion and official opening is planned for spring 2018.
