Implenia named " Tunnelling Contractor of the Year " at the international Tunnelling Awards in London

Implenia's Nant de Drance pump storage power station project chosen as "Major Project of the Year"

Dietlikon, 8 December 2014 – Every year the International Tunnelling & Underground Space Association (ITA-AITES) honours companies and projects in the tunnelling and underground space sector. Last Thursday in London Implenia received this year's "Tunnelling Contractor of the Year" prize. A jury of industry and academic experts evaluated the nominees in terms of quality, innovation, cost efficiency, customer satisfaction and business development. Implenia impressed jury members with its strong track record at the Gotthard and its ongoing work at the Semmering Tunnel in Austria. "We're proud that our work during recent months and years has been recognised in this way," says Olivier Böckli, Head Tunnelling at Implenia. The jury also selected Implenia's Nant de Drance project as "Major Project of the Year". Together with a partner, Switzerland's leading construction services company is building one of the most productive power stations in Europe. When it starts operating at the end of 2018 the pump storage plant will generate 2.5 billion kWh of electricity every year. By that point, 400 workers will have built 17 km of tunnels and excavated more than 1.7 million m3 of rock.
