Implenia wins major rail project in Sweden

Glattpark (Opfikon), 14 March 2025 – Trafikverket, the Swedish authority for transport infrastructure, has awarded Implenia the contract for the “Bibana Nyköping” section of the new “East Link” railway in eastern Sweden. The project, worth approximately CHF 130 million, will be carried out under an “early contract involvement” model within a strategic design-and-build partnership. This new job acquisition fits well with Implenia’s strategy of focusing on large, complex infrastructure projects.
“Bibana Nyköping” is an approximately 8 km long section connecting Nyköping and Skavsta town centres with the double-track “East Link” mainline. The contract includes several bridges, railway tracks, refurbishment of existing structures and further works along the route. Completion of the contracted section is scheduled for 2031.
“With this project, Implenia is helping to raise mobility infrastructure in eastern Sweden to a new level. We are once again utilising our many years of experience and comprehensive expertise in large, challenging civil engineering projects, and we’re looking forward to close, partnership-based cooperation with our client. We would like to thank Trafikverket for their trust,” says Erwin Scherer, Head Division Civil Engineering at Implenia.
“East Link” connects Stockholm to several towns over a 160 km stretch of Sweden’s east coast. One of Sweden's largest infrastructure projects, it is designed to improve train frequency, shorten travel times and promote regional development.
