Implenia begins concrete implementation of Werk 1 in Winterthur

Project launched on plot 3 together with strong partners | Investment volume of around CHF 100 million

Dietlikon, 15 June 2017 – Implenia, working with the Winterthur housing cooperatives Gesewo and gaiwo, as well as the Adimora investment foundation, managed by Pensimo Management AG, is building the first property on the Werk 1 site in Winterthur. The three clients are investing a total of around CHF 100 million. With this social housing development, Implenia is delivering a key component of the overall plan for Werk 1. The signing of the contracts gives the green light for the first stage of the successful development of this diverse and sustainable new neighbourhood.

Affordable, sustainable housing and workspace is being created on plot 3 of Werk 1, and the entire site is being built to meet the criteria set out in the SIA’s Energy Efficiency Path (2017 edition). It will also be the first certified 2000-Watt site in Winterthur, setting a milestone for sustainable urban development.

“On plot 3 we will see the first actual construction within this development plan, which was approved by the town’s citizens. I’m pleased that the four developers are working together on this major residential project, which will provide a broad range of rental, cooperative, owner-occupied and retirement homes,” says Winterthur City Councillor Josef Lisibach. For Implenia, this important milestone takes the development project to the next level. Implenia firmly believes that it is creating a sustainable and vibrant neighbourhood with attractive spaces for all to enjoy.

Building permission is expected by the end of the year. Construction will then start in mid-2018. The first residents will move in in 2021.

Mixed-use, sustainable residential properties, from non-profit and affordable housing to owner-occupied apartments, are being built on plot 3. The picture shows the winning project by the Baumberger & Stegmeier Architekten und Kilga Popp Architekten consortium. (Picture: Architects)
