Construction starts on the "Eaux des Fontaines" viaducts

The Civil Engineering Department for the canton of Bern has commissioned Implenia with engineering structure projects for the A16 motorway (“Transjurane”).

Dietlikon, 6 August 2012 – Work on construction of the "Eaux des Fontaines" viaduct has begun on the “A16-Transjurane” motorway. A 544 metre long and up to 30 metre tall twin bridge is to be built on the section between Court and Loveresse. The implementation of this challenging project on unstable ground requires a great deal of experience, know-how and cooperation among specialists from the fields of bridge construction, specialist civil engineering and civil engineering. Sectional scaffolding is used for the construction of the viaducts. This is secured to the viaducts and can be moved along such that it serves as a platform for the construction and concreting of the subsequent sections of the bridge at each stage. This allows a construction method without interim supports and thus increases cost efficiency and productivity.

The Civil Engineering Department for the canton of Bern has commissioned Implenia with the construction of the twin bridge. Construction work is set to be completed in summer 2015. The contract is worth a total of around 29 million francs.

By the end of 2016, the “A16-Transjurane” motorway will connect the Swiss-French border at Delle-Boncourt (canton of Jura) with Biel. Around two thirds of the 85 kilometres of motorway are already finished and operational.
