Modernisation story
Les guides de construction d'Implenia s'engagent avec l'ONG Smiling Gecko
Christian Vonow, Implenia construction manager, has been committed to the NGO Smiling Gecko for three months and is enthusiastic about his project work in Cambodia.
A typical day for him looks like this
- Our employee gets up with the chickens - at 6.00 a.m. he is on his feet.
- After breakfast, the students of the Smiling Gecko School take part in early morning sports - football is clearly the favourite among the kids.
- By 7.00 a.m. all 250 children have arrived and meet for the flag lift, which rings in the lessons. Christian starts recording the defects in the buildings. "The construction is less complicated than in a country like Switzerland or Germany because Cambodia has a much warmer climate," says Christian. Certain things, such as gaskets or insulation, were omitted - but it is still important to maintain a high standard of quality, he says.
- After a lunch break, our foreman plans future living quarters: "The school needs more teachers and these in turn need accommodation. He then checks whether the pipes have been laid correctly. Finally, after dinner, the team takes a swim in the pool.
- At 19.30 it is pitch dark and he retreats to his studio with bathroom, WLAN and air conditioning. A luxury, for which he is more than grateful as a European, who is not used to the heat.
