Slussen SN91

Short description

Extensive rock and concrete work at Katarina Mountain

The project

To meet Stockholm's continuous development, Slussen will be rebuilt and a bus terminal will be built in Katarinaberget.

The bus terminal will be designed as a mountain space with room for both passengers and bus traffic. Approximately 270,000 m3 of rock will be removed when the rock blasting for the new bus terminal is carried out. The design of the terminal will be influenced by the surrounding buildings, the existing rock outcrops in Katarina Mountain and the slope towards Stadsgårdsleden. These present the project with rock engineering challenges, such as large spans and low rock cover. Three large tunnels with a span of up to 24 m provide waiting areas for passengers and driving areas for buses. Implenia's contract generally includes rock work for the underground tunnels with entrance tunnel, media tunnel, new waste water tunnel - in total rock work of around 270 000 m3 and concrete work of around 12 000 m3. Some earthworks will also be carried out.
