Duisburg Forum

Short description

Construction of a multi-award-winning inner-city shopping centre in Duisburg.

The project

One of the most modern shopping centres in Germany, with seamless integration into its inner-city surroundings, was constructed at the heart of Duisburg city centre.

The eye-catching silhouette is not the only thing that’s special about this new shopping centre. The Forum is the first property in mainland Europe to be awarded the highest quality grade according to the British BREEAM® system, making it a trailblazer for energy efficiency and sustainability. The development has already won multiple awards: 2008 - BREEAM certificate (‘Very Good’), European Parking Award, ADAC-certified car park, ICSC Award for ‘Best European shopping centre’, 2010 - ICSC Resource Award for ‘most sustainable shopping centre in Europe, ‘environmentally friendly retail property’ B.A.U.M., FM user prize from Facility Manager magazine.

Services in detail

Turnkey construction of a commercial property with retail and office spaces in an inner-city location. Even in the planning phase, the building owner benefited from the technical expertise of the Essen branch office, which had already worked on the City-Palais development over the road with a casino, food and beverage outlets and shops. Thanks to this involvement from an early stage, it was possible to develop a sophisticated energy concept that offers energy savings of 20 per cent compared to comparable shopping centres.

Sustainability

The Forum is the first development in mainland Europe to be awarded the British BREEAM certificate with a rating of ‘Very Good’.
