Power supply of the future - innovation with the Kabeldiagonale in Berlin

Hello {user.firstName} {user.lastName}

The 380kV cable diagonal in Berlin is not only one of the capital's most important power lines, but also a construction masterpiece: the 19.8 km-long extra-high-voltage line runs from the north-west of Berlin through the city center towards the east, rivaling the longest power lines in London and Vienna.

Thanks to numerous innovations in the construction industry, the originally underground power line can now be renewed using tunnel construction to significantly increase its current-carrying capacity. This revolutionary project is therefore not only advancing the goal of the energy transition, but also overcoming the complexity resulting from the geological conditions. The power supply of the future is being successfully realized thanks to a well thought-out concept in the areas of safety and sustainability.

At a depth of 25 meters and in a tunnel with a diameter of only 3 meters, the realization of this project is a masterpiece that requires unique technology. Despite these challenging circumstances, Implenia ventured to drive through the Charlottenburg intermediate shaft with a hydro-shield tunnel boring machine (TBM) under atmospheric conditions. If successful, this would result in a time, quality and financial advantage for the construction project. In addition, atmospheric inspections and repairs to the cutting wheel, the brush seals and the shield casing would be possible from the outside by driving through the shaft.
