  • What are the symptoms of the flu (influenza)?
The flu is often confused with a cold. It can also be confused with a COVID-19 disease. Typical for a flu are:
    • Fever above 38°C
    • Cough (dry at the beginning)
    • Headache, tiredness, dizziness
    • Muscle and joint pain

The symptoms often appear suddenly and abruptly with severe mailaise and chills, occasionally with rhinitis, sore throat and difficulty swallowing.

  • Differences to colds
Like COVID-19, the flue (influenza) can cause sometimes severe, sometimes life-threatening complications. A cold, on the other hand, does so only in exceptional cases.
  • Differences to COVID-19
The coronavirus of the current COVID 19 pandemic is still completely new for the immune system of many people. As a result, the number of people who can become seriously ill with COVID-19 is significantly higher than the number of people with flu complications during a normal flu season. With a vaccination you can protect yourself against a flu illness in winter. The flu vaccination offers protection only against the "real" flu (influenza), but not against COVID-19 and all the cold diseases that occur during the winter..

Due to the current situation with the coronavirus, we recommend all employees who have cold symptoms to stay at home and discuss the further procedure with their doctor and, if necessary, have a test. Please also report your absence to your supervisor.

What to do in the event of symptoms and possible infection? The FOPH (BAG) recommends to act described here.

*Note: This offer is valid for Switzerland. Due to the current pandemic (COVID-19), more vaccine doses will be available in 2020 than in previous years to cover the expected increased demand. However, some of the doses will only reach Switzerland towards the end of the year (probably between the end of November and the beginning of December). Patience is therefore needed in 2020! The flu epidemic in Switzerland does not usually start before the end of December, usually in January. Even with a flu vaccination in December, there is still enough time for the body's own immune system to build up protection.
